Early Life of Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal was born in 19th March, 1990 in Hisar District, in the Indian State of Haryana. However, Saina Nehwal spent her life in the city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. She is the first women Indian badminton player to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympic Games and also the first Indian who have won the World Junior Badminton Championships. This badminton player of India has carved history on 21st June, 2009 by becoming the first Indian to win the Indonesian Super Series tournament. Highest career ranking of Saina Nehwal is 6. She is regarded as the most promising female badminton players of India at present. Her father, Dr. Harvir Singh and mother Usha Rani, both were former State Badminton Champions in Haryana.
Career of Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal was previously coached by Dronacharya Award winner, S. M. Arif. But, presently, this Indian national junior champion is trained under Indonesian badminton legend Atik Jauhari. Saina Nehwal is getting coaching at the Pullela Gopichand`s Academy of Badminton at Hyderabad. In the year 2004, Saina Nehwal became the National Junior Champion and she again won the title in 2005. In the same year, she was the runner up in the National Senior Championship. But, she won the title in 2006 and 2007 consecutively. Besides these victories, Saina Nehwal has also won the All India Junior Ranking Tournaments of 2005 that was held at Chennai, Cochin, Bengaluru and Pune. Further, she also won the All India Senior Ranking Tournament in the year 2005, which was held at Mumbai. This promising female badminton player of the country also became the winner at the National Games that was held at Guwahati.
Saina Nehwal also made her mark in the international badminton sphere. She made her international debut in 2003 at the India Satellite tournament. At this tournament, she reached the top-16 round. In 2003 again, Saina Nehwal won the Junior Czech Open tournament. In the year 2004, she reached the Quarter Final round at the Cheers Asian Satellite tournament that was held at Singapore. At the India Satellite tournament in the year 2005, this badminton player of the country got her first International success. At this tournament she emerged as the winner. After this victory, Saina Nehwal also won the Bingo Bonanza Philippines Open title in 2006, and also claimed the India Satellite tournament 2006. At the All England Open 2007 tournament, Saina Nehwal reached the Pre-Quarter Final round. Moreover, at the Macau Open tournament 2007 and the Dutch Open tournament 2007, she also reached the Quarter Final rounds. Further, in 2008, Saina Nehwal won the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold tournament. She also reached the Semi Final round of the LI NING China Masters Super Series tournament. In that same year, Saina Nehwal created history when she became the First Indian Woman ever to reach the Quarter Final round of the badminton tournament at the Olympic Games, and went on to become the first Indian woman to win a Gold in badminton at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, held at Delhi.
Throughout the badminton career, Saina Nehwal has toppled some of the leading badminton players of the world making the country proud.
In 2011,Saina Nehwal won the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold event and Finished runners-up at the Indonesia Open-2011 Super series premier badminton tournament.
